  • The noise in my head is real.

No matter how you slice it, noise and anxiety do not mix.

  • Welcome to S.A.F.E!

In an industry where being 15 minutes early means being late, and where minutes cost thousands, it is remarkable how readily those boundaries burst open in crisis.

  • About the Founder

So I finally decided what I want to do with my life: give back to the community I know and love.

What is S.A.F.E.?

S.A.F.E (Supporting Anxiety Free Environments) on Set is a non-profit initiative designed to break down barriers and stigmas associated with Anxiety and Depression while working in the Film & TV Industry.

S.A.F.E aims to establish an industry standard of peer-to-peer support for those dealing with anxiety and depression within the unique production-environment we live in. The more that we can talk openly about mental health issues, the greater chance we have of creating acceptance and breaking the fear of being stigmatized.

As someone who suffers from periods of anxiety and depression, I wanted a way to let people know when something was ‘going on’ with me, but often I  preferred not to talk about it right then and there. I needed a signal to say “Bear with me” and know that my colleagues were there to help when I was ready to talk.

How does it work?

S.A.F.E uses a series of colored zones to unify those afflicted with anxiety, by identifying colleagues who are there to help, while alerting others to when we are experiencing symptoms.  The iconic film cones represent a beacon of acceptance and understanding in an environment where emotions can evolve rapidly and we don’t often have time to stop and check-in with each other.

S.A.F.E promotes mental health support that adapts to our immersive work-life by using  set-friendly stickers, buttons and posters to participate in this initiative by implementing an industry-wide ‘status check’ for mental health.

S.A.F.E on Set aims to accomplish two goals:

#1 – Allow crew to identify themselves as a supporter of positive mental health on set; Letting others know you are there to listen and help in a judgement free way.

#2  – Enabling those afflicted to alert others when they are experiencing symptoms, without having to verbalize it in the moment, helping to avoid additional anxiety.

CODE OF CONDUCT: This site is to promote peer support for mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Trolling, hate, judgement, gaslighting or other hurtful acts are not tolerated and will be deleted immediately. To report abuse or any issues please contact me immediately.
